Winter Storm Watch issued as heavy snow, ice threaten region

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for much of East Tennessee, southwest Virginia and portions of southwest North Carolina as a powerful storm system is expected to impact the region late Friday night through Sunday evening, according to the National Weather Service in Morristown.

Forecasters warn that heavy mixed precipitation is possible, including significant snowfall and dangerous ice accumulation. Snow totals of 4 to 10 inches are possible, particularly north of Knoxville, with the highest amounts expected near the Kentucky border and in far western Virginia.
