Family questions why Cincinnati man’s death wasn’t initially investigated as homicide

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – The family of a Hamilton County man whose death was not initially investigated as a homicide is speaking out, questioning how the case was handled after a suspect later confessed to the killing.

Russell McCollum, who went by Tom, was found dead in his home in December after his friend found him and called 911, according to an incident report from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

The man now accused of killing McCollum is James Courtney, the son of the friend who made the 911 call, McCollum’s family says.
