Jackson, Mississippi – As winter cold lingers across Mississippi into February, animal welfare experts are urging pet owners to take cold weather risks seriously, even across the Deep South. Pets in warmer climates are often less prepared for prolonged cold, making extended chilly periods especially dangerous during overnight and early morning hours.

According to the American Red Cross, pets should be brought indoors as much as possible during extended cold stretches. Animals left outside can quickly develop hypothermia or frostbite, particularly when wind and damp conditions are present.
