Arkansas expert says Tyson layoffs indicative of larger beef industry issues

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — In the wake of thousands of layoffs that went into effect at two Tyson plants earlier this week, one Arkansas expert said the move could happen again, and may signal larger issues in the beef industry.

On Jan. 20, nearly 5,000 Tyson employees were officially out of a job after mass layoffs took effect at beef processing plants in Texas and Nebraska.

While the Texas plant lost a whole shift, the Nebraska plant was shuttered entirely…
