Lincoln package thefts rise while individual losses decline, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The Lincoln Police Department announced Wednesday that the average loss per victim in package theft cases decreased from 2024 to 2025, while the total number of incidents and total loss increased slightly.

According to LPD, the average loss per victim dropped nearly $20 from 2024 to 2025. While incidents and total loss increased slightly, the financial impact on each victim decreased.

Total losses declined from more than $60,000 in 2022 to around $40,000 in each of the past two years, LPD said. Losses totaled about $39,000 in 2024 and just under $41,000 in 2025…
