In the wake of warnings of a potentially catastrophic winter storm barreling toward Texas, the National Weather Service office covering San Antonio and Austin issued an extreme cold watch as wind chills could dip below zero. The coldest arctic blast sweeping Texas could shockingly bring a hypothermia or frostbite risk as far south as San Antonio.
“Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 2 degrees below zeros possible,” the extreme cold watch warns for Saturday evening, January 24, across all of South Central Texas, including the Texas Hill Country and all major metros. “The dangerously cold wind chills … could result in hypothermia or frostbite on exposed skin if precautions are not taken. Extreme cold will be life threatening and likely damaged unprotected pipes and put livestock at risk.”
