Albuquerque City Councilors expected to take up rental fees at tonight’s meeting

Albuquerque (KKOB) – On tonight’s Albuquerque City Council agenda, councilors will be taking up a proposed ordinance that would deal with the disclosure of rent and fees in listings, and also limits and to regulate application fees.

City Councilor Nicole Rogers has been a proponent of this ordinance, which was deferred at the last meeting. Under the proposal, landlords would have to clearly show the full cost of rent and all fees upfront. It also caps application fees at $50 and late fees at 5% of the monthly rent. Rogers told our news partners KOAT, that she introduced the ordinance after someone told her they were charged $250 for an application fee. Landlords who violate the ordinance would have to pay a $250 fine, if approved at tonight’s meeting…
