Bakersfield City Council votes to work with Taft for extra jail space

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Bakersfield City Council directed city staff on Wednesday to seek an agreement to work with the Taft Community Correctional Facility as a solution for extra jail beds.

City Manager Christian Clegg presented an update on the Jail Bed Task Force during the City Council meeting. The task force was created in September of 2025.

According to Clegg, Kern County jail facilities only have 1,700 beds.
