NJ school district plans to cut jobs to tackle $17M shortfall

HACKENSACK, NJ (PIX11) — Hackensack school district officials presented a proposed plan Wednesday to address a $17 million budget deficit that could lead to dozens of job cuts.

At the tense school board meeting, acting superintendent Andrea Oates-Parchment said part of the plan to close the budget gap is to cut 90 full-time staff positions.

“This is something that I don’t want to do,” said Oates Parchment. “I’m presenting this plan juxtaposed to what I’m feeling right now, and it’s difficult.”
