The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office and Central Dispatch recently recognized Dispatch Supervisor Chad Kirby with a Life Saving Award for his outstanding actions while on duty. On Oct. 15, 2025, Supervisor Kirby was working at the Van Buren County Central Dispatch Center when multiple 911 calls were received reporting a structure fire in the Village of Decatur. During this emergency, Supervisor Kirby answered a 911 call from a disabled female who was trapped inside the residence. Through calm, professional, and compassionate communication, Supervisor Kirby efficiently gathered critical information, provided lifesaving emergency instructions and remained calm on the phone to help keep the caller calm while guiding her through crucial steps for survival.
