Here’s what’s changed about the winter storm in Memphis this weekend

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A significant winter storm is still expected to impact Memphis and much of the Mid-South this weekend, but there have been important changes in the forecast that will affect how this storm plays out and what impacts we see on the ground.

The biggest change over the last 24 hours is a northward shift in the storm system. Earlier forecasts suggested that the heaviest snow would be closer to Memphis with ice more likely toward Central Mississippi. That has changed. As the storm track has nudged north, the snow, sleet, and ice zones have all shifted north as well, meaning more of the Mid-South could now see a mix of winter precipitation instead of just snow.

Timing has not changed much. Conditions remain quiet through most of Friday, with the first round of winter weather arriving late Friday night, likely after 9 p.m. From there, precipitation continues through Saturday, Saturday night, and into at least part of Sunday before tapering off Sunday afternoon…
