Richmond, Virginia – As winter cold lingers across Virginia into February, animal welfare organizations are urging pet owners to remain proactive as extended cold conditions continue to pose risks for pets across the Commonwealth. Even outside of major storms, repeated exposure to cold air, wind, and frozen ground can lead to serious health concerns for animals.
According to the American Red Cross, pets should be kept indoors as much as possible during prolonged cold stretches. Animals left outside can suffer from hypothermia, frostbite, and disorientation in a short amount of time. Cold weather can also turn parked vehicles into unsafe environments that trap frigid air, making it dangerous to leave pets unattended even briefly…
