Forecasters have adjusted the projections ahead of high impact winter storm that will move into the area on Saturday afternoon. According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, the southside is set to receive 5 to 8 inches on snow and up to 2 inches of sleet.
The storm is expected to last through Monday morning. Heavy snow will fall along/north of US-460, up to a foot or more in the Shenandoah Valley, with 5 to 8 inches south of US-460 to the NC/VA state line and lighter amounts in NC. Sleet will mix in to the south, significantly cutting snow totals down to only a few inches in NC.
