Donation drive helping dozens displaced after Chesterfield apartment building fire

CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) – At the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds, James Verlander spends his afternoon sorting through bags full of essentials, helping people rebuild their lives after losing everything in an apartment building fire.

“There’s some cleaning supplies, there’s some canned goods in here,” said Verlander with the Chesterfield County Fair Association.

The donations are lending a helping hand to those who lost all their belongings during a massive fire at the Waterside at Iron Bridge on Jan. 8.

“We’re just trying to help the community, it’s all about community involvement,” Verlander said.
