SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Less than a month into the job, Mayor Sharon Owens is suspending the requirement that new Syracuse police officers live in the city, reversing an effort pushed by her predecessor.
The mayor, sitting alongside her newly-appointed police chief, announced the temporary change of heart in an interview with NewsChannel 9.
“Fundamentally, I believe it is in the best interest of our officers to experience living in Syracuse,” Owens said. “But, also, I am living in the reality of the size of our force now.”…
