Michael Saunders & Company, the Gulf Coast’s premier real estate brokerage, proudly unveiled a thoughtfully curated window installation, “A Legacy in the Making: Sarasota’s Visual Arts History 1945-1965,” during a reception Friday, January 16, at the company’s headquarters at 1605 Main Street, at the corner of Orange Avenue and Main Street in downtown Sarasota.
About 100 artists, art enthusiasts, real estate clients and arts supporters gathered to be among the first to view the informative and inspiring display combining historical facts and timelines with archived vintage photos and reproductions of famous artworks. It highlights the people, places and creative lifestyle that helped establish the Sarasota Artist Colony from 1945-1965. The important roles of WWII veterans studying on the GI Bill, the post-war art school boom, the Ringling Circus, Ringling School of Art (now Ringling College of Art and Design), the Petticoat Painters and the Sarasota Art Association come alive in the vivid descriptions and images featured in the window panels…
