A growing number of Worcester residents are expressing discontent over a proposed tax exemption for an office-to-housing conversion project on Main Street.
The Washington D.C.-based Menkiti Group wants to turn underutilized offices on the upper floors of 401-409 Main St. into housing. City Manager Eric D. Batista previously asked the council to approve a 10-year real estate tax exemption on the property’s new value and to designate the project as eligible for tax credits under the state’s Housing Development Incentive Program (HDIP).
