Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced the sentencing of Kanika Oni Boston, 51, of Washington, D.C., following her convictions for felony theft scheme and felony insurance fraud.
The case involved fraudulent insurance payments obtained from Aflac and National Teachers Association Life Insurance while Boston resided in Maryland, and was investigated by the Office of the Attorney General’s Fraud and Corruption Unit and the Maryland Insurance Administration.
Investigators determined that between 2016 and 2017, Boston submitted seven fraudulent claims to NTALife without medical documentation, resulting in $106,100 in improper payments. From 2017 through 2021, she then filed more than 100 additional fraudulent claims with AFLAC using falsified medical records, receiving more than $324,000.
