Albany man convicted of fatal Stewart’s shooting charged in fraud scheme that turned up 135 guns

ALBANY — An Albany man convicted of a fatal 2024 rush-hour shooting on Delaware Avenue is among seven people indicted in an alleged money-laundering scheme that led to the seizure of over 100 guns this summer.

Jahmell Manso, 27, was charged last week with conspiring to launder $7.1 million obtained in a complex, international fraud scheme, according to the U.S attorney’s office. He is already serving 20 years to life in state prison after pleading guilty in May to second-degree murder for the shooting death of 21-year-old Davyjian Grier.

The July 9, 2024, shooting shocked neighbors and passersby at an intersection that includes a shopping plaza and Stewart’s Shop. County prosecutors said video footage captured Grier driving across Delaware Avenue with Manso in pursuit on foot. Grier speeded into the Stewart’s parking lot before crashing into a parked car. Manso was seen sprinting away. Albany police, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service, located him in Virginia months later, and he was arrested on a sealed indictment warrant on Dec. 11, 2024…
