Pet owners urged to protect animals from winter weather risks

COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) — As winter weather threatens South Carolina, veterinarians and pet experts are advising pet owners to take precautions to keep their animals safe.

Dennis Lown from Pet Supplies Plus emphasized the importance of bringing pets indoors, saying, “If possible the best thing to do is bring them inside your house. If you have a garage, some type of storage, anything that you could do to get them out of the weather is the best thing to do for them.”

Dr. Lisa Garren, medical director at Four Paws Animal Clinic in Columbia, warned of the dangers of hypothermia and frostbite, noting, “The lower the temperature, the quicker, the risk of hypothermia or frostbite becomes.”…
