Wanted man arrested after found staying at hotel in The Villages

A Silver Springs man wanted on felony warrants was arrested with methamphetamine at a hotel in The Villages.

Officers learned 41-year-old James Dean Delago, a man wanted on Marion County felony warrants, was possibly in a room at Holiday Inn Express in The Villages around 7:50 p.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

An employee at the front desk advised that he did not have a room booked there, but checked two other hotels nearby. With no sign of Delago, the officer cleared the call and left the area. It took a few hours and speaking with a representative from a bail bond company to discover he was actually in a room at the SureStay Hotel, located at 1201 Avenida Central, behind Holiday Inn Express, the report said. The SureStay Hotel was formerly the La Hacienda Hotel, the original hotel in The Villages.

Officers went to the SureStay Hotel around 10:25 p.m. with a master key card from the front desk. They knocked on Delago’s door three times but got no answer. They opened the door and ordered Delago to show himself with his hands up, the report said.

It only took a few seconds for him to walk out from behind a corner. He was told to lay on the floor, to which he complied and was taken into custody. The officers subsequently searched the room and found a plastic baggie with 1.86 grams of methamphetamine on the night stand between the beds, the report said…
