Road crews adjust operations amid regional salt shortage

LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Mich. (WILX) – Some Mid-Michigan road agencies are changing how they treat roads this winter as limited salt supplies affect certain communities more than others.

The Village of Fowlerville recently notified residents that salt is being conserved and prioritized for major intersections, railroad crossings, and traffic signals, with reduced treatment on local and residential streets. Officials say the shortage is tied to the demand from salt mines in the Detroit area, which supply many road agencies across the region.
