New Assembly bills would make bus rides free for senior citizens, high school and college students

STATEWIDE — CITY BUS RIDES WOULD BE FREE FOR THE ELDERLY AND SOME STUDENTS under a legislative package that state Assemblymember William Colton, D-47, has introduced.

Colton, who represents Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Dyker Heights, introduced three bills aimed to help senior citizens as well as college and high school students.

One bill (A9427) would allow all seniors currently enrolled in the MTA’s Reduced Fare Program to ride city buses for free. This would qualify any senior age 60 or older, according to language in the bill…
