(FOX 5/KUSI) — San Diego police are warning beachgoers about thefts targeting surfers who hide their car keys before heading into the water.
Investigators say thieves are watching people conceal keys in common spots such as wheel wells, then stealing vehicles once the owners leave. Police released surveillance video for the first time showing a suspected thief in action.
The video, recorded by a Tesla parked at the Ocean Beach Dog Beach lot, shows a man walking past several vehicles before stopping at a Honda CR-V. Police blurred the man’s face because the investigation is ongoing.
