On Thursday at 2:56 a.m. EST a cold weather advisory was released by the National Weather Service valid from Friday 1 a.m. EST until Saturday 10 a.m. EST for Midland, Bay, Huron, Saginaw, Tuscola, Sanilac, Shiawassee, Genesee, Lapeer, St. Clair, Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Wayne, Lenawee and Monroe counties.
“Very cold wind chills as low as 15 to 25 degrees below zero expected,” comments the weather service. “The coldest conditions are expected between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. Friday morning. Wind chills will remain well below zero through the day Friday and into Saturday morning.”
“The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 25 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures,” explains the weather service. “Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators inside.”
