Weather Authority Alert: Rain (heavy at times), fog, wintry mix, mountain snow

Get ready for cold air, rain, fog, a wintry mix, and mountain snow!! We have the most unusual weather phenomenon happening this weekend. A warm-core Pacific system with lots of moisture will collide with a significant Arctic cold air mass. The snow line Sunday morning will be literally right over Las Cruces, giving the City of the Crosses the better chance of snow. El Paso will likely see snow tipped mountains on Sunday. For El Paso, this will be a rain event.

TONIGHT:   The skies will be mostly cloudy to overcast.  Overnight, we shall have a chance to receive our first rain drops.  The low will drop to 46 (warmer thanks to the clouds), and the SW winds will range from 5-10 mph.

FORECAST:   KTSM has issued a Weather Authority Alert due to a significant drop in temperatures for the weekend as well has rain, fog, a wintry mix, and mountain snow this weekend.  Friday will be much colder with heavy cloudy cover and the potential for significant rainfall.  Under cloudy skies, expect scattered rain showers and chilly winds on and off through the day.  Friday’s high: 56. Colder winds blow in Friday night from the east-NE at 10-30 mph.  Saturday will be a cold day with a high of 47.  The skies will be overcast.  Expect rain showers with areas of patchy fog.  The NE winds will range from 5-20 mph.  On Sunday, a final push of cold air will sweep into the Borderland mixing light rain showers over to a wintry mix of rain with a slight chance of snow flurries.  On the Franklin Mountains, we are likely to see enough accumulation at the top to create a beautiful, white-tipped range.  Las Cruces has a much better chance for snow than El Paso.  A Winter Advisory is posted for the Sacramento Mountains.  Sunday’s high will be 43, and late Sunday, the skies will clear.  We drop to an extremely cold 20 at the airport Sunday night, 15 in the valley.  Monday will be mostly sunny and a little windy at times.  Monday’s high: 49.  Tuesday will be sunny and 59…
