Will County Clerk Says New USPS Policy Could Affect Mail-In Ballots

Will County Clerk Annette Parker was a guest on WJOL’s “Slocum in the Morning” today to discuss how changes to U.S. Post Office policy could affect mail-in voting.

What Changed? Under the old rule, postmarks showed the date that the mail was accepted in the mail drop box or at the post office counter. Under the new rule – which went into effect at the end of 2025 – the postmark date is the “date of the first automated processing operation” at a facility, which can be days after the actual mailing, due to transportation changes made by USPS.
