Kansas Highway Patrol urges drivers to stay home during weekend winter storm

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The Kansas Highway Patrol is urging drivers to stay off the roads this weekend, warning that a winter storm could create dangerous conditions and leave stranded motorists waiting longer for help.

The patrol stressed that people should make plans to stay close to home during the storm. Officials said response times could be significantly delayed due to both hazardous road conditions and an increased number of emergency calls.

“The road conditions themselves could slow us down, but then also the number of calls,” said KHP Trooper Gary Boles. “Our call load can increase because of people being out in [the storm].”
