Des Moines Schools among those canceling classes Friday due to extreme cold

DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines Public Schools has announced it is canceling classes on Friday due to the Extreme Cold Weather Warning that goes into effect at midnight.

DMPS said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution for its students who walk to school or wait outdoors for a school bus. The district also said the extreme cold may affect the operation of its school buses and delivery trucks.

Wind chills are expected to be as low as -31 degrees near the start of the school day and remain -20 throughout the day…
