Tacoma I‑5 Meltdown, 14-Year-Old Arrested After Spitting On Troopers

A 14-year-old girl was arrested Tuesday after she reportedly assaulted Washington State Patrol troopers who tried to detain her on Interstate 5 in Tacoma. The confrontation briefly shut down the right lane of southbound I-5 near South 72nd and South 74th streets during the midday commute, officials said. Troopers ultimately placed the juvenile in custody, and she was later booked into a juvenile detention facility.

Assault Allegations and Possible Charges

According to coverage by Yahoo News, troopers say the girl resisted and spit on three officers, kicked one of them and damaged a trooper’s body camera. No troopers were injured in the encounter, authorities said. She was arrested on suspicion of three counts of third-degree assault.

Traffic Jam on a Tuesday

The right lane of I-5 southbound was closed while troopers took the juvenile into custody and reopened at about 12:43 p.m., according to The News Tribune. The disruption triggered short delays for drivers trying to navigate the midday commute through that stretch.
