BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Town of Amherst will pay more than $2 million in a settlement with a woman who was hurt in a crash during a police chase.
According to court documents, in February 2021, Amherst Police were pursuing a teen who was driving a stolen truck. During the chase, the driver hit the car of then 63-year-old Rosemary Lopez at the intersection of North Bailey and Amsterdam Avenues.
Lopez’s legal team said her life was changed by the serious injuries. This week, the town board approved a more than $2 million bond resolution to settle Lopez’s claim that the police officer was reckless in initiating the chase, claiming it went against department policy…
