Kalamazoo bar offers five-course meal featuring beer, pork

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — On Feb. 3, visitors to Burdick’s Bar & Grill at the Radisson Plaza Hotel in downtown Kalamazoo can attend Stouts & Snouts, a special five-course meal featuring pork dishes and stouts from Bell’s Brewery.

“I’ve done upwards of 50 beer dinners in the past,” said Kristofer Lohraff, executive chef at Burdick’s Bar & Grill. “It’s something I have a lot of experience and joy with.”

As guests arrive at 6 p.m., they will be served a welcome beer and an appetizer before settling in for a three-hour dining experience coordinated by Lohraff and his kitchen team.

“This is an opportunity for me to turn both the kitchen and the dining room into somewhat of a classroom,” Lohraff said. “To teach people some things about foods or flavors or textures or techniques they’ve never seen before.”

When deciding how to best pair various stouts from Bell’s Brewery — including some with sweet potato or cherry flavors — with pork dishes, Lohraff steered away from simplicity and focused more on complimenting unique flavors with differing ingredients…
