MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The Tennessee Department of Transportation is positioning equipment and supplies near the Interstate 40 and Interstate 55 bridges over the Mississippi River as winter weather approaches the region.
On average, 35,000 people travel between Arkansas and Tennessee daily through the main corridor in Memphis. When winter weather arrives, the travel hub faces significant impacts.
“What we will do is we will strategically place some trucks with supplies, closer to the bridge, for when the event begins. We have salt bins, placed strategically around the west Tennessee region,” said Nichole Lawrence, regional communications officer for TDOT.
TDOT handles maintenance of both bridges over the Mississippi River and ensures the bridges are treated with salt and kept clear during winter weather events…
