ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – The National Weather Service has issued a cold weather advisory for the Finger Lakes Region, where wind chills as low as 15 below zero are expected Friday night into Saturday.
That means spending time outdoors can be hazardous. Karolina Micalos is a nurse practitioner with Rochester Regional Health’s urgent care system, and offered advice on how to manage time spent in the elements.
“Frostbite can happen quite fast, anywhere from minutes to hours. People who are older are more at risk for frostbite and hypothermia as well as people who have existing conditions like cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
