Winter weather is wrecking havoc on college hoops’ biggest games in Texas

In talking to Robert Giovannetti, you would never know a winter storm was headed for the state of Texas this weekend.

Giovannetti, Texas Tech’s senior associate athletic director, was as upbeat and energized as ever. This time, he seemed even more enthusiastic because ESPN’s College GameDay was set to come to Lubbock. The No. 12-ranked Red Raiders were preparing to host the No. 6-ranked Houston Cougars in one of the biggest college basketball games on the schedule.

“There are no plans to cancel the game,” Giovannetti told Chron Thursday. “We’re in communication with the Big XII and the weather service. The current plan is to play it out.”…
