Akron officers cleared after shooting, killing suspect after crash involving stolen vehicle in 2025

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) – A Summit County Grand Jury has cleared Akron police officers who were forced to use deadly force to defend their live in February 2025.

According to a press release, through a thorough investigation conducted by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and a review of a grand jury, the evidence showed that the officers acted lawfully and appropriately in a life-threatening situation.

“We stand by our officers, who followed their training in a deadly situation,” Akron FOP President Brian Lucey said in the release. “Our officers were shot at multiple times by a dangerous man driving a stolen car. They had no choice but to defend their own lives and the safety of others. I’m thankful that all officers were able to go home to their families at the end of their shift.”…
