SUN | Former Baltimore City Council candidate sentenced for COVID relief fraud

A former Baltimore City Council candidate was sentenced Thursday to four years in federal prison for defrauding $1.7 million through falsified applications for coronavirus relief funds — including one for her defunct campaign.

Nichelle Henson, 39, was sentenced for defrauding $1,694,451 in funds by submitting 18 fraudulent Economic Injury Disaster Loans applications and six bogus Paycheck Protection Program applications between 2020 and 2021. U.S. District Judge Matthew Maddox handed down the sentence in the District of Maryland.
