Iconic Pine Mountain mural to be restored with funds raised through limited edition print sale

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (WRBL) — One of the town’s most iconic murals has faded with time but is now getting a second chance to tell its story. The Trains mural painted nearly two decades ago, tells the story of how this community was built, quite literally, along the tracks.

“It was one of the first murals that was done by John Christian.” Julia Keating, executive director of Pine Mountain Tourism, said, “It is faded, and we need to repaint it, to preserve it.”

The mural highlights Pine Mountain’s roots as a railroad town  once known as Chipley where the arrival of the tracks helped shape the community’s economy and identity.

“Well, it’s the history of the town. This is a railroad town that was formed by Mister Chipley.” said Keating. “The railroad was a main product of this town. It carried the cotton, it carried the produce from this area.”…
