Al Shade, a beloved local country and western music personality, died Thursday. He was 98.
Shade grew up in Gratz, Pennsylvania. He, along with his wife, Jean Romaine, played hundreds of shows in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, New York and Connecticut.
Shade was known as the nation’s oldest active country music singer, continuing to perform at events and festivals well into his 90s.
