Lancaster County man accused of striking girlfriend’s dog, knocking it unconscious

LITITZ, Pa. — A Lancaster County man has been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals after police say he struck his girlfriend’s dog in the head, hard enough to render the animal unconscious.

Joshua S. Hess, 26, of Lititz, was charged on Jan. 7 following an investigation of a complaint by his girlfriend and a local veterinarian, who claimed Hess admitted to hitting the dog for relieving itself in the house.

The French bulldog was observed to be unresponsive with blood in its eyes while receiving treatment at the veterinarian’s office, according to Northern Lancaster County Regional Police…
