VSP helps train prosecutors and investigators in fight against human trafficking

WILLIAMSBURG – The Virginia State Police Human Trafficking Unit, the Department of Criminal Justice Services, the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Services Council, and the Human Trafficking Institute earlier this month met with prosecutors and investigators from around Virginia, training them on tactics for handling human trafficking cases. January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month.

Over 1,100 investigators and prosecutors have participated in various trainings through the partnership since 2023. The training in Williamsburg in January was the most recent effort to display best practices for fighting human trafficking across the Commonwealth.

“Human Trafficking is a horrific crime and a major focus of Virginia State Police,” said Lieutenant Colonel Caren M. Sterling, Director of the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation. “The more we train and learn best practices, the greater the likelihood we will be able to give victims’ their lives back.”…
