Rochester, N.Y. — A man received the maximum sentence Thursday of 25 years to life in prison after a jury convicted him of second-degree murder for a deadly stabbing in downtown Rochester.
Raul Lazcano, now 73, stabbed Jose Hernandez, 68, inside Winton Garden Towers on East Main Street on the night of May 5, 2024, according to the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office. Hernandez died from his injuries shortly after arriving at Strong Memorial Hospital.
Prosecutors said Hernandez was sitting in a chair in the community room when Lazcano, a resident at the complex, began screaming at him. Lazcano then left the room, grabbed a knife, returned and stabbed Hernandez in what prosecutors say was an unprovoked attack. Lazcano was arrested at the scene…
