Jackson City Council seeks solutions for lack of grocery stores

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – During a special City Council meeting on Thursday, Jackson leaders discussed the need of grocery stores in the capital city.

The Jackson City Council opened the floor to members of the community to discuss their concerns about a lack of grocery stores in the city.

“Growing up, Northside Drive was packed with grocery stores. Now, there is nothing. Raymond Road, before you get to 18, there were a couple there, but again, there’s nothing,” said Jackson City Councilman Brian Grizzell, Ward 4.

The City Council wants more grocery stores and smaller markets throughout the city in order to prevent citizens from having to travel to other cities in order to look for groceries…
