‘I ain’t trying to die’ | Fair Park shelter fills as cold snap endangers Dallas homeless

DALLAS — An emergency shelter opened at Fair Park on Friday afternoon and quickly filled as cold, wet weather pushed hundreds of unhoused residents indoors.

The shelter opened at 4 p.m. inside the Fair Park Automobile Building, where city officials and nonprofit partners set up about 1,200 cots. Officials said they expected all of them to be occupied as temperatures dropped across North Texas.
