DOTD has 5,000 pounds of rock salt ready for metro roads ahead of winter storm

BRIDGE CITY, La. (WVUE) – With a rare winter blast set to hit Louisiana, workers with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development are making sure salt trucks and brine sprayers are ready to roll by Sunday evening.

“Anytime we have an emergency event, it’s always an all-hands-on deck situation,” Scott Boyle, district engineer administrator for DOTD’s New Orleans region, said.

Scott Boyle oversees DOTD operations in the greater New Orleans area. He says 75 pieces of equipment, including brine trucks, are on standby and crews have 5,000 pounds of rock salt and 10,000 gallons of brine mix to pre-treat roads. Priority, Boyle says, will go to bridges and elevated surfaces because they can freeze over before the streets below…
