Icy roads claim Mecklenburg County paramedic’s legs; 23 years later his message still saves lives

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — About 23 years ago, a winter storm changed paramedic Tim Hayes’ life forever, according to the Mecklenburg EMS Agency.

On January 23, 2003, during an ice storm on I-77 near Davidson, Mecklenburg EMS said Hayes was responding to a crash when a tractor-trailer slid into the accident scene.

The agency said Hayes was pinned against a guardrail and suffered injuries that tragically led to the loss of both of his legs…
