Former Dunkirk treasurer arrested for embezzlement

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Former longtime treasurer of the City of Dunkirk Mark Woods was arrested Friday for allegedly embezzling more than $120,000 from the city, the State Comptroller and Chautauqua County District Attorney said in an announcement.

Woods has been arrested for public corruption, grand larceny and false filing charges from his alleged embezzlement that took place over nearly three years.

Woods’ arrest follows a lengthy investigation by the state into the city’s finances after the City of Dunkirk’s Treasurer’s Office was shut down by the state comptroller in March 2025 and reopened six days later…
