Baptist Memorial prepares area hospitals to stay open during winter storm

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Area hospitals in the Mid-South have been working with contractors all week to prepare for a long stretch without safe roadways as the region gears up for the incoming ice storm.

“Whether that’s clinical supplies, pharmaceuticals, linen, waste management, you name it. We work with them leading up to an event like this, in case there’s any impact to roadways that don’t allow us to receive those critical supplies,” said Nick Lewis, chief facilities and environmental safety officer for Baptist Memorial Healthcare.

Baptist Memorial, headquartered in Memphis, owns and operates several hospitals in the Mid-South and North Mississippi, where ice is projected to accumulate up to an inch.

Lewis said their essential hospital staff will be staying on-campus or at nearby hotels while roads are frozen so they can provide critical care without needing to travel in dangerous conditions…
