Former medical examiner weighs in on autopsy ruling ICE detainee’s death a homicide

Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) — Dr. Mary Jumbelic, former chief medical examiner for Onondaga County, spoke with 13WHAM Thursday regarding the autopsy of a Cuban migrant who died in custody after being arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Rochester.

The Jan. 3 death of Geraldo Lunas Campos, 55, of Henrietta while in ICE custody at Camp East Montana in Texas has been ruled a homicide, according to the autopsy report completed by Dr. Adam Gonzalez, deputy medical examiner for El Paso County. The report determined Lunas Campos’ death was caused by asphyxia “due to neck and torso compression”
