Following BREC layoffs, commissioner suggests more dialogue before major decisions

The first BREC Commission meeting of 2026 saw relatively few remarks about the layoffs announced last week, although one commissioner suggested there should have been more dialogue between the BREC administration and commissioners before the decision.

In a Jan. 16 news release, BREC announced it would be immediately laying off around 10% of its workforce and restructuring the organization. The decision followed a December workshop with members of the BREC Commission, where some commissioners advocated for the changes.
